Report of the 27th Mission to Burundi (Medical Services, Inauguration of the nurses residence)

On Sunday, 13.6.2010, a three member team of Heart Doctors visited Burundi in order to offer medical services, medicines and clothing for children to poor families living in Gisuru, a village of the remote Province of Ruyigi.

A block of 3 buildings destined for the nurses residence at the hospital of Gisuru has been completed and its inauguration will take place during this mission.

The team worked intensively for three days at Gisuru ( 15 17 of June ). Many patients gathered there to be medically examined and treated and receive their medicines. Food aid and clothing for children were distributed to needy families at Gisuru.

The nurses residence consists of 3 separate buildings and will house 14 nurses. The inauguration was impressive.

The team purchased 50 metallic beds to cover the existing needs of the hospital; sheets, blankets, pillows, curtains etc, were also purchased and used. Part of this material has been transported  by Heart Doctors from Athens.
The main diseases observed were malaria, infections of the respiratory system etc.

On the 17th of June the team moved to a village called Cakuzo; the President of Burundi Mr. Pierre Ngurunziza visited the place to speak to the people who had gathered there. The President spoke highly of Heart Doctors and asked them to finance the construction of a paramedical school at Gisuru ( for training nurses ).
