Report of the 8th Mission to Ethiopia (Food Providing)

A team of members of "Heart Doctors" traveled by air to Addis Ababa on Sunday the 20th of July, 2008. The purpose of this mission was to purchase foodstuffs from local markets and distribute them to poor people suffering from hunger and malnutrition.

The food items purchased were milk powder suitable for children, maize, sugar and teff. The foodstuffs were loaded to 28 cars and transported to various places where they were distributed to hungry populations.

Awash, an area and village to the east of Addis Ababa, was the place where a considerable part of the quantity of foodstuffs purchased was delivered and distributed. The rest of the purchased quantities was taken by car to other poor places of southwestern Ethiopia.

The distribution of food was difficult and painful; the hungry people were impatient and could not stay in orderly lines. They rushed to grab the bags containing the distributed quantity, wounding in this way by their nails the arms of the team members who did the distribution. Armed soldiers assisting the mission tried violently to keep the people in order but this was not easy at all.
