9th Mission NIGER

On Saturday, 23.7.1016, a team of `Heart Doctors` left Athens and through Frankfurt reached Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. There they met with representatives of the Embassy of Niger State in Khartoum and flew together by helicopter from Abuja to Zinder, a major city of Southern Niger. The purpose of the visit was to buy from markets of the Republic of Niger certain staple foodstuffs and offer them to poor nomadic populations of shepherds staying in the wide area around Zinder. This land suffers now from drought and hunger.

Heart Doctors purchased maize, milk powder for children, sugar, rice and wheaten flour. These commodities were distributed to representatives of Fulani, Tuareg and Hausa ethnic groups who transported them by animals to the places where they stayed with their herds.
