61st Mission GREECE

A four member team of «Heart Doctors» visited Komotini on 28.3.2017, in order to offer food aid to the Municipality and the Orthodox Christian Church of Komotini, and inform the students of certain schools about volunteering and the humanitarian activities of their Organization.

On the 28th of March the following schools were visited:

(a) The 7th Primary School of Komotini (21, Marasli street; Headmaster, Mrs. Ekaterini Traka).

(b) The 13th Primary School of Komotini (63, Filikis Eterias street; Headmaster, Mr. Theodoros Nikolaidis).

Pictures from «Heart Doctors» missions were shown to the students (missions within Greece and abroad) while volunteering and humanitarian assistance were the subjects most children wanted to discuss. Teachers and students were very impressed by poverty, sickness and misery particularly of young children in Africa.

The students of the 13th Primary School offered to the team two bags full of medicines they had gathered as their donation and contribution to the humanitarian work of «Heart Doctors». One student addressed the members of the team and said that his schoolmates want to participate in the humanitarian work of «Heart Doctors» and thus they offer the medicines they gathered for this purpose. He added that it is their wish to see more people following the example of «Heart Doctors».

The leader of the team thanked warmly the schoolchildren and said that soon the donated medicines will be used by Heart Doctors.

The Deputy Mayor of Komotini, Mr. Nikolaos Sotirakopoulos, met the team of Heart Doctors in the Social Service Offices of the Municipality; the team delivered the following foodstuffs for the poor people assisted by the Social Services: pasta, lentil, rice, sugar and olive oil.

Then the team visited Saint Barbara Church and delivered to the priests pasta, lentil, rice, sugar and olive-oil for the «Social Grocery» of the Church (this “grocery” gathers various foods and other commodities which are distributed to needy people).

Interviews were given to journalists of “ERA radio”, “Northern Greece STAR TV” and “Chronos” newspaper.

Νext day (29.3.2017), «Heart Doctors» visited τhe 2nd Junior High School of Komotini ( Giani Ritsou street; school master: Mr. Dimitrios Simitopoulos). The leader of the team talked to the students and discussed with them about volunteering, sickness and poverty in Africa – pictures from a video were projected.

The Saint Sophia Church was visited and foodstuffs were delivered to the head priest for the free meals prepared by the Church to serve hungry poor people.

The team visited the Bishop Panteleimon, Metropolitan of Maronia and Komotini; it also met the Police Lieutenant Colonel of Rodopi Mr. Mihael Sevdinis.

Early in the afternoon, the team moved from Komotini to Thesaloniki by car and met there the «Heart Doctors» friends of Thessaloniki. Next day (30.3.2017) the team visited with their colleagues from Thessaloniki two schools of the city:

(a) The 1st Primary School of Thessaloniki (2, Kassandreos street; headmaster: Mrs. Theodora Tsakiri),
